
Thailand and UK Deepen Strategic Partnership as British Ambassador Meets Europe Department Chief
Talks in Bangkok followed up on the Thai Prime Minister’s London visit and looked ahead to two chairmanships: the UK’s G20 in 2027 and Thailand’s ASEAN in 2028.

BANGKOK — Thailand and the United Kingdom have agreed to keep strengthening their ties under the Thailand–UK Strategic Partnership. On 2 October 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met H.E. Ms. Nicola Pollitt, British Ambassador to Thailand.
Mr. Paul Bute, Deputy Director for Southeast Asia and Pacific at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, joined the discussion.
Following up on the Prime Minister’s London visit
The two sides reviewed the outcomes of the Thai Prime Minister’s visit to the United Kingdom on 25–26 September 2026. They also discussed concrete ways to deepen cooperation under the strategic partnership framework between the two countries.
Looking ahead: G20 and ASEAN

On 2 October 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met with H.E. Ms. Nicola Pollitt, British Ambassador to Thailand, accompanied by Mr. Paul Bute, Deputy Director for Southeast Asia and Pacific at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
During the meeting, both sides followed up on the outcomes of the Thai Prime Minister’s visit to the United Kingdom on 25–26 September 2026, and discussed concrete ways to deepen cooperation under the Thailand–UK Strategic Partnership.
They also explored opportunities for closer collaboration during the United Kingdom’s G20 Presidency in 2027 and Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2028.
เมื่อวันที่ 2 ตุลาคม 2569 นางสาวสมฤดี พู่พรอเนก อธิบดีกรมยุโรป ได้เข้าพบและหารือกับนาง Nicola Pollitt เอกอัครราชทูตสหราชอาณาจักรประจำประเทศไทย โดยมีนาย Paul Bute รองอธิบดีกรมเอเชียแปซิฟิก กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เครือจักรภพและการพัฒนาสหราชอาณาจักร ร่วมในการหารือด้วย
ในการหารือครั้งนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้ติดตามผลการเยือนสหราชอาณาจักรของนายกรัฐมนตรีไทย ระหว่างวันที่ 25–26 กันยายน 2569 พร้อมทั้งร่วมกันหารือถึงแนวทางที่จะกระชับและส่งเสริมความร่วมมือให้แน่นแฟ้นยิ่งขึ้น ภายใต้กรอบความเป็นหุ้นส่วนทางยุทธศาสตร์ระหว่างไทยกับสหราชอาณาจักร
นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายยังได้แลกเปลี่ยนความเห็นเกี่ยวกับโอกาสในการทำงานร่วมกันในช่วงที่สหราชอาณาจักรจะดำรงตำแหน่งประธานกลุ่ม G20 ในปี 2570 และที่ไทยจะดำรงตำแหน่งประธานอาเซียนในปี 2571
