President Joseph Aoun received a phone call late this evening from U.S. President Donald Trump, who congratulated him on the signing of the U.S.-brokered framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. The call marks a significant moment in Lebanese-American relations and comes in the wake of a historic diplomatic breakthrough that regional leaders are describing as a turning point for the Middle East.

President Trump reaffirmed that the United States stands by Lebanon and the Lebanese people and will work to provide everything necessary to implement the provisions of the agreement in order to restore security and stability to Lebanon.

Historic First
“For the first time in Lebanon’s history, Lebanon and Israel have signed a formal trilateral framework under the sponsorship and participation of the United States.”

Trump’s pledges to Beirut

President Trump stressed that the United States wishes the Lebanese people peace and prosperity and will spare no effort to support Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as the extension of state authority — through its armed forces — across all Lebanese territory. He also underscored the importance of ending any threats to Lebanon’s stability and reaffirmed U.S. support for the positions of the President of the Republic and the decisions of the Lebanese government.

He added that the United States will contribute to supporting the Lebanese economy and the country’s legitimate security institutions, enabling Lebanon to regain its leading role in the region and the world. At the conclusion of the call, President Trump indicated that he looks forward to meeting President Aoun in Washington in the near future.

“The United States will spare no effort to support Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as the extension of state authority through its armed forces across all Lebanese territory.”

Aoun’s response: accountability and commitment

President Aoun thanked President Trump for his steadfast support for Lebanon, its legitimate authorities, and its constitutional and security institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese Armed Forces. He emphasized that the Lebanese state will assume its responsibilities in implementing the framework agreement and expressed hope that the United States would help prevent any violations of the agreement and ensure that all commitments reached in the understanding are fully honored — particularly by pressing Israel to withdraw from the territories it continues to occupy in southern Lebanon, thereby facilitating the deployment of the Lebanese Army up to the international border.

For the first time in Lebanon’s history, Lebanon and Israel have signed a formal trilateral framework under the sponsorship and participation of the United States. This marks a historic milestone and a decisive step toward achieving a just and lasting peace with Israel, resolving longstanding issues through diplomacy, strengthening the authority of the Lebanese state, ensuring that arms remain exclusively in the hands of the state, and ending the weapons of Hezbollah and all militias, thereby creating the conditions necessary for security, stability, and prosperity.

We welcome the role of the United States as a trusted strategic partner and guarantor of this framework. Its direct participation provides the confidence, credibility, and international assurances necessary to ensure the success of this process, consolidate peace, strengthen Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability, and open new horizons for development and prosperity.

I received a call from Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, during which he congratulated me on Lebanon’s signing of the framework agreement with Israel under American sponsorship. Safadi expressed his hope that this agreement would serve the interests of Lebanon and its people, contribute to restoring stability and consolidating the state’s sovereignty over all its territories, and that Lebanon would live in security and peace.

I expressed to him my deep gratitude for Jordan’s steadfast supportive stance toward Lebanon, and affirmed that this agreement embodies the triumph of the diplomatic solution and the prioritization of the logic of the state and its institutions over everything else.
