Pro-Israel Democrats Hold Long Island Seats as Republican Loses in Hudson Valley
Two centrist Democrats in competitive suburban districts won comfortably on Tuesday, while Rep. Mike Lawler conceded to Democrat Cait Conley upstate.
Two centrist Democrats representing competitive suburban House districts on Long Island secured comfortable victories on Tuesday, underscoring the continued strength of pro-Israel messaging in areas with significant Jewish populations.
Reps. Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen, both Democrats from New York, easily won reelection in Nassau County. Roughly one in five households in the county includes at least one Jewish member. Throughout the campaign, both candidates worked to distance themselves from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani while emphasizing their support for Israel and measures to improve security at Jewish institutions.

Lawler concedes in the Hudson Valley
In a separate contest upstate, Republican Rep. Mike Lawler conceded defeat around 11 p.m. to Democrat Cait Conley. Lawler had been one of only three Republicans nationwide to win a House seat in 2024 that was carried by then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
Lawler managed a narrow win in his home base of Rockland County, which is home to large Orthodox Jewish communities whose leaders had endorsed him. However, he trailed Conley in the overall count as large numbers of ballots from Westchester County remained outstanding. Westchester is home to more diverse and liberal-leaning Jewish communities. A technical issue with voting machines delayed the full tally from that county.
