Why Such Calls Matter
Courtesy calls between newly arrived ambassadors are a customary part of diplomatic practice. They build working relationships, open lines of communication and set the tone for cooperation. In this case the public statement points to continuity: both sides stressed longstanding friendship rather than any new initiative.
Bangkok is also an important diplomatic hub, hosting UNESCAP and a large resident diplomatic community, which makes personal contact among envoys especially useful.
