Günther Fehlinger-Jahn Unveils Bold Vision for Austria’s Future: A Strong, Free and Confident Republic in a Secure Europe
The economist and NATO-enlargement advocate publishes a ten-point program built on security, economic freedom and European strength, promising to “lead Austria into NATO” by 2029.
“Feel the Fehlinger – Fehlinger is no mistake.”Campaign slogan · Presidential bid 2028
VIENNA — Austrian economist, author and NATO enlargement advocate Günther Fehlinger-Jahn has emerged as one of the most outspoken voices ahead of the 2028 presidential election. With a detailed program centered on security, economic freedom, European strength and national self-confidence, he is offering voters what he calls an alternative to stagnation and outdated neutrality.
Born in Linz in 1968 and educated at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Fehlinger-Jahn has worked as a development consultant and reform expert across Europe’s transformation countries. As Chairman of the Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement and author of three books, he argues that Austria must stop hiding behind Cold War-era neutrality and take full responsibility for its own security. On X, he states plainly: “Yes, I want to be President of Austria 2028 & lead Austria into NATO 2029.”

A Clear 10-Point Program for a Stronger Austria
In the platform released in October 2026, Fehlinger-Jahn sets out ten priorities. Tap any card to read more.
Out of neutrality, into NATO by 2029
He argues neutrality no longer protects Austria but isolates it. He pledges to modernize the Bundesheer, including F-35 fighters, so Austria contributes to collective defense instead of “free-riding” on neighbors.
Stronger Europe: enlargement and EU50
Rapid EU and NATO enlargement for Ukraine, the Western Balkans and Moldova, plus his “EU50” doctrine, a larger democratic community that could one day include the UK, Israel, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico.
15% flat tax, leaner state
A simple 15% flat tax, deep bureaucracy cuts and a state share of GDP falling toward 40%. His image: filing taxes “on a beer coaster.”
Energy independence by 2050
Secure, affordable energy including a serious debate on new nuclear power alongside renewables, storage and hydrogen, and an end to OPEC’s privileged headquarters status in Vienna.
7% of GDP for education & research
Major investment in education, research and digitalization so young Austrians can compete globally.
Targeted, sustainable social state
Protect pensions and healthcare while ensuring help reaches those who truly need it.
Modern infrastructure, no ideology
Expand railways, accelerate e-mobility and charging networks, and replace rigid bans with intelligent speed limits.
Rule of law & anti-oligarch transparency
Combat corruption, expose hidden influence networks (especially Russian-linked), privatize ORF, and set up a presidential inquiry commission on oligarch assets.
Vienna, capital of freedom
Restore Vienna’s historic role with symbolic projects, including a Heldenplatz that celebrates Europe’s freedom story.
Ukraine to victory
Full support for Ukraine until victory and unwavering defense of European democracies.

Signature Pledges
Beyond domestic reform, Fehlinger-Jahn has pledged to return Moctezuma’s feather headdress to Mexico through a bilateral, partnership-based solution; to offer asylum to Russians who publicly break with Putin’s regime; to stand with Israel and support its deeper Euro-Atlantic integration; and to use the presidency’s moral authority to advance a global ban on the death penalty. He also wants a presidency that is “close to the people,” reachable and responsive.
Why This Agenda Matters
The Austrian presidency is largely ceremonial, but Fehlinger-Jahn says he understands the power of moral leadership, agenda-setting and public advocacy. By speaking clearly on NATO membership, economic reform, energy security and enlargement, he aims to force what he calls a long-overdue national conversation. Austria’s neutrality is anchored in its 1955 constitutional law and remains broadly popular, so any change would require wide political and public backing.
His message: Austria can be safer, freer, more prosperous and more influential. Feel the Fehlinger.
