Middle EastTrump Backs Netanyahu Ahead of October 27 Vote as Israeli Leader Eyes a “Two-Year Window” on Iran
President issues a “complete and total endorsement” of the Israeli prime minister, who says the next two years with Trump in office are a rare chance to finish the campaign against Tehran and reshape the region.
President Donald Trump has thrown his full support behind Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 elections, delivering a powerful endorsement as the Israeli leader declares that the next two years represent a critical opportunity to confront Iran, defeat remaining regional threats, and reshape the Middle East.
Trump announced his “complete and total endorsement” of Netanyahu on Sunday, describing the Israeli leader as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and praising his determination during the ongoing confrontation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Netanyahu responded with gratitude, calling Trump’s backing an “extraordinary endorsement” and declaring that Israel has never enjoyed a stronger ally in the White House.
“Together we will never let Iran’s regime get nuclear weapons.”Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel
Netanyahu said the two leaders remain united in confronting Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and its network of terrorist proxies.
Netanyahu Sees Historic Window to Finish the Mission
Speaking as he presented his national security strategy, Netanyahu warned that Israel cannot assume Washington will remain equally supportive after Trump leaves office in January 2029.
“There is a window of another two years with President Trump, and one of the questions in these elections is who will work with Trump? Who will complete the remaining work?”Benjamin Netanyahu
The prime minister argued that Israel must use this period to complete unfinished military objectives, establish stronger regional partnerships, and prepare for the possibility of a future American administration less sympathetic to Israel’s security concerns.
Iran remains at the center of that strategy. Following the joint American-Israeli military campaign launched in February, which severely damaged Iran’s military infrastructure and weakened its regional proxies, Netanyahu believes the opportunity exists to fundamentally alter the balance of power in the Middle East.
Trump reinforced that message in his endorsement, warning that Iran had been devastated militarily and financially and could face additional American action unless its leadership changes course. The president also made an unusually direct appeal to Israeli voters, arguing that Netanyahu’s continued leadership was essential to completing the joint campaign against Tehran.
Inside Israel’s Updated National Security Doctrine
Netanyahu’s office published the new doctrine, formulated with the National Security Council and its director, Shmuel Ben Ezra. It describes the post-October 7, 2023 fighting as “The War of Redemption” and says it required an upgrade of fundamental principles. Select a principle below.
“Through continuous combat – from Gaza to Yemen, from Lebanon to Iran – Israel warded off an imminent existential nuclear threat and removed the chokehold of the Iranian axis.”From the Prime Minister’s National Security Doctrine
The statement adds that the government and Security Cabinet “made well-considered decisions, the IDF and security branches struck with immense force, and the civilian home front stood firm,” and that “opportunities have been created for forging new alliances in our region and beyond.”
Rubio Condemns Violence in Judea and Samaria
Despite the strong alliance, Washington has expressed concern over recent violence in Judea and Samaria, also known as the West Bank, where Israeli extremists allegedly attacked European diplomats and journalists near the Palestinian Christian village of Taybeh.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the incidents, saying American officials were deeply disturbed by footage of the attacks and emphasizing that Trump does not want another crisis erupting in the territory. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and President Isaac Herzog also condemned the violence, while Netanyahu’s office urged authorities to establish the facts before drawing conclusions. Israeli police have opened an investigation.
The controversy underscores the challenges facing Netanyahu as he seeks to preserve American support while navigating Israel’s increasingly contentious domestic political landscape.
Election Could Determine Israel’s Strategic Direction
Netanyahu has framed the October 27 election as a defining choice over Israel’s future, warning that a rival coalition could reverse his government’s policies on Palestinian statehood and regional security.
For Netanyahu, the stakes extend well beyond domestic politics. His argument is that Israel has a limited opportunity to consolidate the military gains achieved against Iran and its proxies while enjoying an unusually supportive American administration. With Tehran’s nuclear ambitions unresolved and regional tensions continuing to threaten wider conflict, the next Israeli government will face decisions that could shape the Middle East for decades.
Trump’s endorsement has now placed the American president squarely in the middle of that choice, making the future of the U.S.-Israel alliance a central issue in Israel’s approaching election.
Whether Israeli voters give Netanyahu another mandate remains uncertain. But the prime minister has made his message unmistakable: the next two years could determine whether Israel completes its campaign against Iran’s regional threat or leaves unfinished business for a potentially less favorable political era.
