Six Years Later: Kushner and President Herzog Mark Abraham Accords Anniversary, Call for Expanded Regional Peace
On the sixth anniversary of the historic normalization deals, the accords’ chief architect and Israel’s president exchange public reflections online — and issue a joint call to widen the “circle of peace” across the Middle East.
Jared Kushner and Israeli President Isaac Herzog marked the sixth anniversary of the Abraham Accords this week with messages on X, reflecting on the landmark agreements’ achievements and urging further expansion of normalization and cooperation across the Middle East.
The Abraham Accords, signed in September 2020 under the leadership of then-President Donald Trump, normalized relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and later Morocco and Sudan. Kushner, a key architect of the deals as a senior White House adviser, posted a detailed reflection on the milestone.
Six years ago, President Trump launched the Abraham Accords and opened a new chapter of peace, partnership, and prosperity in the Middle East. Many said it was impossible. But with courageous leadership, persistence, and a small group of people willing to challenge old assumptions, we proved that the impossible could be achieved.
He contrasted the Accords with previous approaches, arguing that the region had long been “trapped by old ideas and failed frameworks that managed conflict rather than solved it.” The core idea, he said, was straightforward: instead of reinforcing the things that divide people, build bonds that bring them together, increase understanding, expand trade and investment, deepen security cooperation, and create tangible benefits that make people’s lives better while giving everyone a stake in peace.
Kushner noted the concrete results of the agreements, pointing to billions of dollars in trade, joint innovation, new friendships and partnerships, and what he described as a powerful alternative to the failed approaches of the past. Looking ahead, he described the Middle East as once again at an inflection point, with breakthrough opportunities that many will dismiss as impossible.
President Herzog replied directly to Kushner’s post, describing the anniversary as an important milestone for peace in the Middle East.

It is a moment to reflect on the remarkable partnerships that we have built across our region. It is also a moment to look to the future and chart the road ahead together. I firmly believe that this is just the beginning. Now is the time for us all to work to expand this circle of peace across the Middle East to the benefit of all our peoples.
The exchange comes as regional dynamics continue to evolve, with ongoing discussions about potential further normalization and deeper economic and security ties among Accords partners and beyond. Both messages emphasized optimism about the model’s proven success and the possibility of repeating and broadening that success.
