Pakistani Americans for Peace Condemn Threats and Fatwas Against Anila Ali
A coalition of Pakistani Americans is rallying behind Dr. Anila Ali after reports emerged of threats and fatwas issued against her for speaking out against extremism.
A coalition calling itself Pakistani Americans for Peace has issued a strongly worded statement condemning reported threats and fatwas directed at Dr. Anila Ali, a prominent interfaith advocate and civic leader, over her outspoken opposition to religious extremism.
The reported threats have drawn swift and pointed condemnation from within the Pakistani American community, with organizers stressing that no individual should face violence or intimidation for promoting peace, education, women’s leadership, and civic engagement across religious and cultural lines.
Pakistani Americans for Peace strongly condemns the threats and fatwas reportedly issued against Anila Ali for speaking out against extremism.
No one should face threats for expressing their views or working to promote peace, education, women’s leadership, civic engagement, and understanding between communities. Every person has the right to speak freely without fear of violence or intimidation.
As Pakistani Americans, we reject anyone who uses religion to spread hate, justify violence, or silence others. These actions do not represent Islam. Our faith teaches peace, justice, compassion, and respect for human life.
We stand with Anila Ali and with everyone who has the courage to speak against extremism. We may not always agree with one another, but disagreements should be settled through respectful dialogue — not threats or violence.
We call on community leaders, religious leaders, elected officials, and people of goodwill to stand together against extremism in all its forms and to defend the right of every person to speak freely and safely.
Violence, fear, and intimidation have no place in our communities. Together, we must build a future based on peace, respect, and understanding.
— Pakistani Americans for Peace
Dr. Ali has long been a visible figure in interfaith and civic advocacy circles, working across religious and cultural lines to promote education, women’s leadership, and mutual understanding between communities. Reports of threats against outspoken advocates who challenge extremism are not new, but community leaders say the response this time reflects a broader determination to draw a clear line against intimidation tactics regardless of who invokes them or in whose name.
The statement’s authors were careful to distinguish between the actions of extremists and the teachings of Islam itself, framing the episode as a call for unity among Pakistani Americans — even amid internal disagreements — around the principle that free expression should never be met with violence.
Faith & Freedom News will continue to follow developments in this story, including any official responses from community and religious institutions.
