Seven Muslim American community members and faith leaders share personal views on Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, from explicit support for Mike Rogers to broader calls on national security, constitutional freedoms and extremism.
A group of Muslim American voices has issued personal statements on Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, with some explicitly endorsing Republican candidate Mike Rogers and others offering general reflections on the Constitution, religious freedom, national security and extremism without naming a candidate.
The statements were shared on social media by Dr. Anila Ali, American Muslim faith leader, IRF Roundtable co-Chair for Pakistan at the International Religious Freedom Roundtable, WEF G100 Gender-Based Violence Chair for Pakistan and UN Peace Ambassador, in a Facebook post. A related video was also shared.
Explicit endorsements of Mike Rogers
Dr. Anila Ali
Muslim American faith leader and civil rights advocate
As a Muslim American faith leader and civil rights advocate, I personally endorse Mike Rogers for the United States Senate from Michigan. … America must come before party.
Anila Ali
Ali said she stands with Rep. Haley Stevens “against hate and intimidation,” recalled running twice for office in California as a Democrat and facing harassment, and said she “chose my country over my party.” She called for confronting extremism, “including the Muslim Brotherhood’s ideology,” and said her mission is to empower moderate Muslim Americans to show their faith is distinct from Islamism and that voices like Abdul El-Sayed’s “do not speak for all of us.”
Wajid A. Syed
I personally endorse Mike Rogers for the United States Senate from Michigan. I respect his experience in public service and his approach to domestic issues, national security, and foreign policy.
Wajid A. Syed
Syed said Rogers’ positions on Iran and commitment to Israel’s security are “particularly important” to him, adding that Rogers has “the experience, perspective, and judgment to serve Michigan and the nation.”
Abdel Ilaa Al Maala
Muslim American community member
Al Maala personally endorsed Rogers. Having lived in the United States for more than 36 years, he cited Rogers’ support for strengthening U.S.–Israel relations and emphasized the importance of friendship and partnership between Muslim and Jewish communities.
Perspectives without a direct endorsement
Sheikh Musa Drammeh
Muslim American faith leader
America is strongest when we defend religious freedom, uphold our Constitution, and reject hatred and extremism in every form.
Sheikh Musa Drammeh
Drammeh encouraged Michigan voters to “carefully examine Mike Rogers’ record of public service, his positions on national security, and his commitment to protecting the constitutional freedoms of all Americans, regardless of faith or background.”
Farhana Khorshed
Speaking personally, Khorshed emphasized that candidates of every religious background should uphold the Constitution and American democratic values. She expressed concerns about extremist ideologies, national security, and citizens’ responsibility to safeguard democratic institutions.
Zeba Zubair
As Muslim Americans, we cherish the constitutional freedoms that allow us to practice our faith and raise our families in peace. We must protect those freedoms, confront extremism, and remain committed to the security and democratic principles of our nation.
Zeba Zubair
Aaliyah Shah
Muslim American community member
We must stand united against antisemitism, Islamist extremism, and all forms of hatred that threaten our communities.
Aaliyah Shah
Shah said voters considering Rogers and the other candidates for the U.S. Senate “deserve an open discussion about national security, religious liberty, and the future of our country.”
Common themes
Constitutional freedoms, religious liberty and opposition to extremism run through most of the statements. The table and chart below are FFN’s reading of the published text, not a poll.
