It Sounds Absurd
God parted the Red Sea as Moses stretched out his staff. A widow’s little jar of oil became enough to pay her debts and provide for her family. Three hundred men with trumpets, torches, and clay pitchers defeated an army. The walls of Jericho fell after people marched and shouted. And thirsty soldiers dug ditches in a dry valley before God provided water without wind or rain.
By conventional standards, none of it makes sense.
And in every account, there was something that came before the outcome: faith expressed through obedience.
In Judges 7:2, God told Gideon his army was too large. Why? Because Israel might take credit for the victory instead of giving God the glory.
The glory was never meant for the instrument. It belongs to God.
I’ve thought about that a great deal in my own life.
I grew up in a town of 300 people, raised pigs for 4-H, and dropped out of college. Never in a million years could I have imagined the opportunities God would eventually place before me. When I said yes to helping launch the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce, I didn’t even know many of the people I now have the privilege of serving alongside.
I couldn’t see what was ahead. I simply took the next step. It makes me wonder how often we overlook the ordinary things God has already entrusted to us.
A business. A team. A relationship. A skill. A dream. Maybe even the stapler sitting on your desk.
What seems insignificant in the moment may have possibilities we haven’t yet imagined.
Consider the chamber of commerce. For more than 425 years, this familiar model has connected businesses, strengthened economies, and brought communities together. Nothing particularly extraordinary about that.
But what if we intentionally used that infrastructure to help Christian businesses become a greater force for the Gospel?
That’s what we’re pursuing through the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce.
Today, our growing Coalition serves more than 3,000 Christian business members, connecting leaders, resources, and opportunities. We’re helping businesses connect the buying, selling, hiring, investing, and giving they’re already doing with people who share their faith and purpose.
And like the widow gathering empty vessels, we’re continuing to build capacity and create connections for what God may do next.
But this isn’t just about what we’re building.
What are you building? What resources, relationships, or opportunities have you overlooked because they seemed too ordinary? What if the next step isn’t acquiring something new, but faithfully using what you already have?
Perhaps your business needs connections, wise counsel, or practical resources. Perhaps what you’ve been entrusted with is exactly what someone else needs.
You don’t need to see the entire path ahead to take the next faithful step.
Your business has something to gain. And something extraordinary to give.
As you plan for 2027, I invite you to explore the connections and opportunities available through the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce.
Consider where God might be calling you to participate.
You never know what God might do with your YES.
Consider Ryan Elijah. After a successful career as an Emmy-winning television news anchor, Ryan took the experience, relationships, and influence already in his hands and stepped into an entirely different arena.
Believing God was calling him into public service, he left broadcasting, challenged an incumbent congressman, and won the primary. Today, his race for Congress remains incredibly close.
An ordinary career, familiar skills, and a willingness to use them for a new purpose. Who knows what God might do next?
