According to the organizers, the event will explore the deterioration of women’s conditions in contemporary armed conflicts, including mass displacement, the collapse of reproductive health services, conflict-related sexual violence, and restrictions on humanitarian access.

Participants are expected to share field experiences and present recommendations aimed at strengthening international responses to the protection of women and girls affected by war. The conclusions of the discussion will contribute to broader conversations within the United Nations human rights framework.

The Sudan conflict has triggered one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with millions of people displaced and widespread concerns over human rights violations, particularly against women and vulnerable communities.

The Speakers’ Main Focal Points

Ramon Rahangmetan

He will focus on the EU approach to help solve the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. He will point out the Islamist extremism and SAF’s implication in human rights violations by using chemical weapons against civilians.

Manel Msalmi

Will focus on the need to investigate the violence against women and call on the UN, EU, and International Criminal Court to hold SAF accountable. She will point to the need to apply UN initiatives including the UNITE Campaign, launched in 2008, focusing on justice for survivors and ending impunity in 2026, and the Spotlight Initiative, a partnership between the EU and UN aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls. She will call on the UN and EU to work on improving access to justice for survivors in Sudan, particularly victims of chemical weapons use, sexual violence, rape, famine, and displacement.

Andy Vermaut

He will call for an urgent recognition of the suffering endured by women in Sudan amid the ongoing war. Highlighting their unique burdens — displacement, loss of healthcare, and increased vulnerability to violence — he will emphasize that violence against women is a crime against human dignity and cannot be ignored amid military and political struggles. He will directly appeal to General al-Burhan to understand that leadership entails protecting lives, not just controlling territory, calling for actionable support for women including safe access to assistance, healthcare, and education, and stressing that history remembers both promises and failures in ensuring civilian protection.

Abderrahim Grein

Will focus on the two reports sent to the UN, mainly the use of chemical weapons by SAF and its consequences.

Sarah Thierrée

She will focus on the psychological torture and trauma witnessed by Sudanese women during the conflict and the need to act to protect women and children in Sudan.

Isabelle Wachsmuth

She will focus on the health consequences of the conflict on women and girls in Sudan and the need to act to stop the health crisis and save the lives of Sudanese women.
