  1. The situation for Christians in India is heartbreaking and concerning. Despite being written 25 years ago, Smita Narula’s quote remains relevant today, highlighting the ongoing struggles of religious minorities in India. The country has seen a rise in anti-Christian violence, discrimination, and cultural impunity, with 160 Christians killed for faith-related reasons and 2,228 Christian properties attacked between October 2022 and September 2023 ¹.

It’s disturbing to note that India, the world’s most populous country, ranks 11th on Open Doors International’s World Watch List for extreme persecution. The U.S. Department of State’s 2023 report also underscores the growing threat to Christians from Hindu extremists ¹.

Organizations like United Christian Forum, Evangelical Fellowship of India working tirelessly to advocate for religious freedom, provide support to victims, and promote interfaith dialogue. Initiatives like “Closing the Gap” and Southeast Asia Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (SEAPFoRB) are crucial steps towards addressing these issues.

Let’s pray for guidance, protection, and strength for our Christian brothers and sisters in India, and support organizations working towards religious freedom and harmony.

    Key Concerns:
    – Anti-Christian Violence: Growing attacks on Christians and their properties.
    – Discrimination: Restrictions on education, employment, and access to justice.
    – Cultural Impunity: Tolerance for human rights abuses and false blasphemy charges.
    – Majoritarian Trends: Laws prohibiting religious conversions.

    Organizations Making a Difference:
    – United Christian Forum
    – Evangelical Fellowship of India
    – Southeast Asia Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (SEAPFoRB)
