AI, Clutter, and the Calling that Still Stands
As the world turns to artificial intelligence for companionship and clarity, one organizing pioneer asks what Harvard’s data really reveals about the human heart — and why God’s call is more urgent than ever.
📊 Harvard University Study — Top Reasons People Use AI in 2025
- 1 Therapy or companionship — people are turning to machines for emotional connection.
- 2 Organizing their lives — seeking systems and clarity in a noisy, cluttered world.
I launched my organizing business in 1978 with a $7 ad in a New York newspaper — long before there was such a thing as an “organizing industry.” What began as a practical service to help people declutter their homes and offices slowly revealed something far more profound about the human condition.
When clients struggled to let go of items blocking their progress, I began asking questions. Inevitably, those conversations uncovered emotional losses experienced earlier in life. The clutter was never just about stuff. It was always about something deeper.
After decades of helping business professionals get organized, I discovered the most effective solution wasn’t a system or a strategy.
My life’s message became clear: Clutter is postponed decisions — and the most critical, and eternal, decision we will ever make is answering the question:
◆ The question at the center of everything
- “Who is Jesus?” — the postponed decision with eternal consequences.
- Every organizing challenge, at its root, is a decision waiting to be made.
- Systems and strategies only work when they serve a Kingdom purpose.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”Proverbs 3:6
A Kingdom calling, not a career
When I married my husband 38 years ago, I could have closed my business. Instead, I chose to keep building — not for personal fame or fortune, but because I longed to be a Kingdom philanthropist. My dream has always been to fund ministries that build orphanages, hospitals, and schools around the world.
Despite decades of effort, I haven’t yet reached the level of financial giving I envisioned. From a worldly perspective, that may look like failure. But I’ve come to believe something that reframes the whole story:
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”Galatians 6:9
What the Harvard data is really telling us
As the world turns to AI for companionship and clarity, I believe God is still calling His people to something deeper: real connection rooted in eternal truth. The Harvard study reveals a hunger — for relationship, for order, for meaning. Those are not problems artificial intelligence can solve at the source.
Systems matter. But only when they serve a Kingdom purpose.
Take inventory — and act
As you lead your business, take inventory — not just of your “stuff,” but of the postponed decisions cluttering your spirit. What has God asked you to act on that you’ve been putting off?
