In a compelling message to supporters and the broader Christian community, Floyd A. Brobbel, Chief Executive Officer of Voice of the Martyrs Canada (VOMC), has outlined the organization’s core values and commitment to supporting persecuted Christians worldwide. Drawing from the beloved hymn “This Little Light of Mine,” Brobbel challenged believers to boldly share their faith despite facing opposition.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
β€” Matthew 28:19-20 ESV

Brobbel began his message by referencing the Sunday School classic written by Harry Dixon Loes, connecting its simple yet powerful message to Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:16 about letting one’s light shine before others.

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”

About Voice of the Martyrs Canada

VOMC facilitates International Ministry projects providing spiritual encouragement and practical support to persecuted Christians. The organization serves impoverished believers, advocates for imprisoned missionaries, rebuilds destroyed churches, and trains future spiritual leaders in Bible colleges worldwide.

According to Brobbel, the global body of believers shines the “light of Christ” through three primary ways: making disciples (Matthew 28:19), building up the saints (Matthew 28:20), and bringing glory to God (Matthew 5:16). He emphasized that local churches prioritizing these goals contribute to the expansion of God’s Kingdom throughout the earth, even when facing persecution.

In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Four Guiding Principles for Ministry

First:
Holy Spirit Direction β€” VOMC believes the ministry is directed and energized by the Holy Spirit, requiring submission to the Lord’s guidance and control. “After all, it is His mission; we’ve only been entrusted to administer the ministry work on His behalf,” Brobbel stated.
Second:
Prayer Foundation β€” Every aspect of the mission must be upheld in prayer. Citing C.S. Lewis, Brobbel noted: “Relying on God has to begin all over again – every day – as if nothing had yet been done.”
Third:
Martyr’s Spirit β€” Owning the Lord’s mission allows believers to represent Him in a fallen world. Quoting Rev. Richard Wurmbrand: “Not all of us are called to die a martyr’s death, but all of us are called to have the same spirit of self-sacrifice and love as these martyrs.”
Fourth:
Church Growth β€” God’s mission drives the growth and spread of the church. Brobbel referenced Jesus’ declaration in Matthew 16:18: “on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

The VOMC work encompasses supporting widows of martyred pastors and their children with basic necessities, advocating for imprisoned missionaries and evangelists, rebuilding destroyed churches, and training young Bible college students to become future spiritual leaders.

Not all of us are called to die a martyr’s death, but all of us are called to have the same spirit of self-sacrifice and love as these martyrs.

Brobbel emphasized that unlike gates, which are stationary and defensive, the church is called to move forward with purpose and strength. Through this divine momentum, he believes God’s Kingdom will continue to grow exponentially, even in the face of opposition.

The CEO concluded his message with a powerful call to action, encouraging believers not to hide their faith but to let it shine boldly, even in the face of persecution.

“Hide it under a bushel? No!
I’m gonna let it shine….
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”
“So, do not be afraid to let your light shine. Certainly don’t ‘hide it under a bushel.’ And, whenever persecution comes, don’t let Satan blow it out. Instead, ‘let it shine, let it shine, let it shine’!”
“Keep looking up!”
