March 21, 2025 – A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department has expressed optimism that the war in Ukraine may soon come to an end, signaling a potential breakthrough in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated on Thursday during an interview with anchor Nichole Berlie on NewsNation Now that the two nations are “just a breath away from a full ceasefire” after more than three years of conflict.
“We are just a breath away from a full ceasefire, and then we can begin to talk about not just peace for a week or six months but an enduring peace that the people of Ukraine and Russia and the world can rely on,” Bruce said. “That is what America has helped facilitate, and that’s what we’re continuing to do each day.”
Since President Donald Trump’s return to office in January, his administration has prioritized efforts to end the prolonged war. The conflict, which marked its third anniversary last month, has resulted in significant casualties and geopolitical instability in the region.
Earlier this week, President Trump engaged in extensive diplomatic talks, speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin for several hours on Tuesday and later with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday. The discussions aimed at resolving key points of contention and setting the stage for a lasting peace agreement.
“We have never been closer to peace with these two parties,” Bruce concluded, reinforcing hopes that a resolution may soon be within reach.
As diplomatic efforts intensify, global attention remains fixed on the progress of negotiations, with many eager to see whether the anticipated ceasefire will lead to a stable and enduring peace between Ukraine and Russia.
