Abraham Accords Mark Fifth Anniversary with Expert Policy Forum
Distinguished panel examines progress, challenges, and future prospects of historic Middle East peace framework
Five years ago, on September 15, 2020, Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates signed the Abraham Accords in a White House ceremony that marked a historic breakthrough in Middle East diplomacy. The Trump administration’s initiative successfully “widened the circle of peace,” with Morocco and Sudan becoming signatories shortly thereafter.
While the geopolitical shocks following October 7 and the ongoing Gaza conflict have slowed momentum toward further expansion, remarkably, no country has withdrawn from the Accords. However, many potential roadblocks to wider U.S.-led normalization efforts still loom on the horizon.
This virtual Policy Forum will bring together four distinguished experts to examine the Accords’ progress, assess current perils, and explore potential paths forward for Middle East peace initiatives.

Forum Objectives
The panel will address critical questions facing the Abraham Accords framework:
- Progress Assessment: What tangible achievements have emerged from five years of implementation?
- Current Challenges: How have recent regional developments impacted normalization efforts?
- Future Pathways: What strategies could reinvigorate and expand the peace framework?
- Lessons Learned: What insights can guide future U.S. diplomatic initiatives?
This timely discussion comes as policymakers, diplomats, and regional leaders reassess Middle East peace strategies in light of evolving geopolitical realities.
The Policy Forum series is made possible through the generosity of the Florence and Robert Kaufman Family.
