Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the PRD, recently met with Akkaraphong Chalermnon, Consul-General of Thailand to Osaka, to exchange ideas on communication strategies aimed at engaging international audiences—particularly in Japan, a country with which Thailand shares a 138-year-long diplomatic relationship.

Years of Diplomatic Relations
5
Languages Supported

Currently, the PRD operates the website www.thailand.go.th, Thailand’s official international portal, available in five languages:

🇹🇭 Thai 🇬🇧 English 🇯🇵 Japanese 🇨🇳 Chinese 🇩🇪 German

Notably, Japanese is the second most accessed language on the site, following English, highlighting the strong connection between Thailand and Japan.

Key Strategic Initiatives

The discussions focused on strengthening the platform’s effectiveness through several initiatives:

  • Establishing a strong multilingual editorial team to ensure accurate content in all languages
  • Enhancing cybersecurity measures to protect the site from attacks
  • Streamlining content to make the website a centralized hub that efficiently connects users to information from various government agencies

The Consul-General proposed the formation of joint editorial teams composed of relevant agencies to collaboratively determine timely and appropriate communication topics. Both sides agreed to continue discussions on implementing this collaboration.

“Thainess Beyond Borders” Initiative

Another highlight of the meeting was the “Thainess Beyond Borders” initiative, which seeks to expand Thailand’s global youth network. The project invites Thai students abroad to create media content—articles, videos, and photographs—that reflect Thai identity.

Their work is published across PRD platforms, including:

thailand.go.th NBT NBT Connext NBT World

Launched in London in 2025, the initiative aims to expand to seven countries, including Japan in 2026.

The Consul-General expressed strong support for the project and suggested including foreign youth who are interested in Thailand. This would not only enhance communication efforts but also foster greater international appreciation for Thai culture.

In Japan, in particular, a growing number of young people are studying the Thai language and engaging with Thai culture. Many have previously participated in cultural exchange activities organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate-General in Osaka.

Their participation will play a vital role in strengthening Thai-Japanese relations and enhancing Thailand’s image on the global stage.
