
Thailand Accuses Cambodia of Ceasefire Violations
Foreign Ministry claims Cambodia using citizens as “human shields” while defending Thailand’s peaceful border measures

Following a border protest where Thai officials were injured, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused Cambodia of violating the ceasefire agreement and using its citizens as “human shields”. The incident occurred on September 17, 2025, when more than 200 Cambodian nationals crossed into Thai territory at Ban Nong Ya Kaew, Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province, to stage protests and remove security barricades.

Spokesperson Nikorndej BalankuraDirector-General of the Department of Information and MFA Spokesperson affirmed that Thailand has strictly adhered to the July 28th ceasefire agreement, viewing it as a vital step toward peace. The spokesperson stated that despite recent commitments to de-escalation at General Border Committee meetingsBilateral mechanism for border dispute resolution, the two governments have chosen different paths.
He asserted that Thailand has chosen the “path of cooperation,” while Cambodia has chosen the “path of conflict” through continuous provocations. The Thai official defended the installation of defensive barriers within Thai sovereign territory as a peaceful measure intended to prevent clashes and ensure the safety of people on both sides.

The Thai government expressed deep regret that Cambodia continues to choose what it called the “path of conflict,” citing recent actions including inciting public protests, issuing misleading press statements, and submitting protest letters to foreign leaders and international organizations, including the UN Secretary-General and the Prime Minister of Malaysia in his capacity as ASEAN Chair.
Nikorndej concluded by reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to resolving the border tensions through peaceful means based on Thai and international law. He stressed that Thailand will continue to utilize all existing bilateral channels, including the GBC, RBC, JBCGeneral Border Committee, Regional Border Committee, Joint Boundary Commission, and direct government communication, to achieve a peaceful resolution.
