BANGKOK— The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement on Monday rejecting what it described as a misrepresentation by Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence regarding comments made by Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Thailand’s Second Army Area Commander, in a 10 August 2025 interview. The remarks, concerning Prasat Ta Kwai, were reported by various individuals and media outlets in Cambodia.
The Ministry stressed that, as already clarified by the Royal Thai Army, Thailand has not redeployed any of its forces to encroach on Cambodian sovereignty in any way. It affirmed that Thai troops remain in the same positions they occupied when the ceasefire came into effect.
Thailand reaffirmed its readiness to participate in Regional Border Committee (RBC) meetings with Cambodia within the agreed two-week timeframe, as set during the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between both countries on 7 August 2025. These discussions aim to address the implementation of the ceasefire in the respective operational areas of both sides.
The statement reiterated Thailand’s firm commitment to fully comply with the ceasefire terms agreed at the Extraordinary GBC Meeting. It also called on Cambodia to adhere to and implement these terms, particularly by refraining from disseminating false information or fake news. Such measures, the Ministry said, are essential to prevent misunderstandings among the peoples of both countries and to foster an environment conducive to peaceful dialogue.
