ANNING, Yunnan: Thailand’s Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa joined his Chinese and Cambodian counterparts on Wednesday for an informal “tea chat” on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (MLC FM), which is being held from August 13–15 in Anning, Yunnan Province.
During the consultation, the Thai Foreign Minister conveyed Thailand’s appreciation to China for supporting the peaceful resolution of recent issues between Thailand and Cambodia through bilateral mechanisms and ASEAN-backed efforts, and for helping to ensure that the current ceasefire is fully and effectively implemented.
Maris highlighted the urgent need for Thai-Cambodian cooperation in clearing landmines along the shared border, stressing that this step is essential to easing tensions and restoring normal conditions for local communities. The matter will be taken up at the forthcoming Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting, he added.
The ministers also discussed the importance of preventing misunderstandings and curbing the spread of misinformation through social media, agreeing that responsible communication and enhanced cooperation were key to maintaining stability and trust.
The trilateral tea chat reflected the spirit of dialogue and mutual support central to the Mekong-Lancang framework, which brings together China, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam to promote regional peace, stability, and development.
