The White House – April 13, 2025
This Holy Week, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump join millions of Christians in prayer as the nation reflects on the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In a heartfelt proclamation from the White House, the President reaffirms America’s dedication to religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and the enduring power of faith.
Embracing the Sacred Journey
Beginning with Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and culminating in the Paschal Triduum—Holy Thursday’s Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Good Friday’s solemn remembrance, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night—this week serves as a time of deep reflection. The President reminds us that only through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross can the glory of Easter Sunday be truly appreciated.
“In His final hours on Earth, Christ willingly endured excruciating pain and execution, ensuring that through His suffering we have redemption, through His death we are forgiven, and through His Resurrection we are granted hope of eternal life.”
A Renewed Promise from the White House
President Trump’s message is both spiritual and steadfast in its commitment to the Christian faith. He declares:
“This Holy Week, my Administration renews its promise to defend the Christian faith in our schools, military, workplaces, hospitals, and halls of government. We will never waver in safeguarding the right to religious liberty, upholding the dignity of life, and protecting God in our public square.”
This commitment is further reinforced by the newly created White House Faith Office, which has orchestrated a remarkable series of events for Holy Week—including a special presidential video message, a pre-Easter dinner, and a staff worship service.
Holy Week Events at the White House
According to Jennifer Korn, Faith Director of the White House Faith Office, the schedule for Holy Week has been crafted to honor the sanctity of the season:
- Palm Sunday: The President will issue a presidential Easter proclamation that speaks directly to Christians as Holy Week begins.
- Monday: A Holy Week video message will be released, setting the tone for the upcoming celebrations.
- Wednesday: An Easter dinner will be hosted at the White House, featuring hymns by the Marine Corps Band, stirring Christian opera performances by Charles Billingsley, and reflective prayers.
- Holy Thursday: A White House staff worship service will take place with participation from prominent faith leaders such as Pastor Paula White, Rev. Franklin Graham, Pastor Greg Laurie, and Pastor Jentezen Franklin. An ensemble from Liberty University will perform worship music during the service.
As White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained,
“President Trump promised millions of Christians that he would create a White House Faith Office, and he has delivered on that promise by putting together an extraordinary weeklong celebration.”
A Contrast in Celebrations
The Presidential message also draws a sharp contrast with previous administrations. Leavitt noted that while the previous year’s Easter celebrations under the Biden administration included alternative observances—such as the proclamation of Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday—the current Holy Week schedule is focused solely on honoring the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign and the White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America for diluting the sacred essence of this celebration.”
A Prayer for the Nation
In closing his message, President Trump offers a prayer for America:
“As we focus on Christ’s redeeming sacrifice, we pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our beloved Nation. May America remain a beacon of faith, hope, and freedom for the entire world, and may our future reflect the truth, beauty, and goodness of Christ’s eternal kingdom in Heaven. May God bless you, your family, and the United States of America.”
