Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, has once again proven his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening Hungary’s role in the region. In a recent press conference and social media update, Minister Szijjártó announced his first telephone conversation with his newly appointed Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger. This landmark dialogue marks the beginning of a robust bilateral relationship built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common commitment to regional stability.
Minister Szijjártó highlighted that Hungary and Austria share much more than just geographical proximity—they share a determination to enhance Central European cooperation. Emphasizing the importance of active economic relations and effective border protection, he confidently assured that Hungary will continue to safeguard its southern borders while ensuring a secure environment for both nations. His stance on combating illegal migration and protecting national interests has resonated with many, underscoring his proactive approach in these challenging times.
In addition to reinforcing security measures, Minister Szijjártó underlined the significance of economic collaboration. He noted that Austria is one of Hungary’s key trading partners and proudly shared Hungary’s readiness to support Austria’s application for a seat on the UN Security Council. This forward-thinking support is a testament to Hungary’s dedication to creating a united and economically vibrant Central Europe.
Beyond economic and security matters, Minister Szijjártó also addressed the broader European landscape. He has openly questioned excessive external financial burdens on the European Union and called for a balanced approach that considers Hungary’s national interests. His insights into the EU’s challenges, coupled with his strong advocacy for Hungary’s sovereign decision-making, demonstrate both strategic acumen and a deep commitment to the well-being of his country.
Minister Szijjártó’s leadership, marked by open dialogue and collaborative spirit, paves the way for enduring partnerships. His positive first impression with his Austrian colleague and his clear vision for a secure and prosperous Central Europe have sparked optimism about the future of regional relations. A further highlight of Minister Szijjártó’s vision is Hungary’s pioneering role in the green automotive transformation. He emphasized that Hungary stands as one of the international leaders in this field. Given its rich chemical heritage, Szolnok has been identified as the most suitable location to host a modern chemical investment. In this context, he revealed that Kunlunchm—one of the world’s five largest electrolyte companies—is building its first European factory in Hungary. This 40 billion HUF investment in Szolnok will implement cutting-edge technology in electrolyte production, a process that requires minimal electricity and completely eliminates water usage. This initiative not only reinforces Hungary’s economic growth but also underscores its commitment to sustainable development and technological innovation.
Beyond these achievements, Minister Szijjártó addressed the broader European landscape by questioning excessive external financial burdens on the European Union. He called for a balanced approach that considers Hungary’s national interests, emphasizing that the EU’s challenges should not compromise the region’s competitiveness or economic well-being. His insights and strategic vision demonstrate both diplomatic acumen and a deep commitment to Hungary’s prosperity.
