Budapest, March 25, 2025 – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Monday opened a meeting of heads of Hungary’s foreign representations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The gathering, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, senior ministry leaders, ambassadors, and consuls-general, focused on Hungary’s evolving diplomatic strategy amid global geopolitical shifts.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Orbán addressed new opportunities and key challenges facing Hungarian diplomacy, particularly in light of the new U.S. administration, ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, and what he described as the European Union’s “pro-war stance.”
The statement also noted that Hungary’s room for maneuver in global affairs has expanded over the past year. Orbán provided an outline of what he called “the programme of economic and political breakthrough”, signaling a strategic push to strengthen Hungary’s influence and economic positioning on the international stage.
Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program, shared his thoughts on the event, emphasizing Hungary’s patriotic foreign policy. In a Facebook post, he stated: “The meeting of mission leaders began with a meeting and a presentation by the Prime Minister. Home before everything!”

Hungary’s foreign policy remains focused on national interests, economic resilience, and maintaining a distinct position within the European diplomatic landscape.
