March for Jesus Brings Thousands to Belfast in Peaceful Display of Unity
Belfast, Northern Ireland — Once known for religious divisions and conflict, Northern Ireland’s capital witnessed a remarkable display of peace and faith as up to 10,000 Christians joined the March for Jesus on Saturday, August 23.
Organizers said participants filled the streets of Belfast, “waving flags, singing and praying in unity” during what they described as a joyful and celebratory event.
From Ormeau Park to City Hall
The march began at Ormeau Park and concluded at City Hall, where worship, prayer, and testimonies were led by musician Brian Houston. Organizers emphasized the family-friendly atmosphere, noting the presence of “many families and children.”
“It was a wonderful sense of peace and unity,” said Reverend John Ahern, chief organizer, adding that police reported no problems throughout the event.
Faith Leaders Join in Prayer
The event featured prayers by faith leaders including Bishop David McClay of the Church of Ireland, Reverend Jim Rae of the Methodist Church, and Reverend John Ashe of Journey Church. Prayers covered issues ranging from family life and government to addiction, brokenness, and revival.
Gospel Invitation and Next Steps
Organizers said several people responded to a Gospel invitation to turn to faith in Christ. Many participants are expected to attend a similar March for Jesus in Dublin on September 27.
“Unity doesn’t mean uniformity,” Ahern explained. “The differences in the Body of Christ exist, but it is significant when God’s people come together in unity to pray and worship Christ.”
Taking Christ Public
Organizers stressed the march was open to Christians and non-Christians alike, aiming to “take Christ public” in a society struggling with addiction, fear, and prejudice.
“There is a whole generation that needs to be reached for Christ,” Ahern said, underlining the event’s evangelistic purpose.
