Saskatoon, SK – The 4th Annual Indigenous Business Gathering 2025 at The World Trade Center Prairieland Park proved to be a landmark event, drawing over 1,100 attendees and hosting more than 125 exhibitors. This record turnout underscores the rapid growth and impact of Indigenous entrepreneurship within Saskatchewan, where Indigenous-owned businesses now represent 4.7% of the province’s private sector—the third highest proportion in Canada.
Nadene Joy, MBA, P. Geo., a distinguished executive leader and professional geologist as well as the President of the Saskatchewan Geological Society, attended the gathering with a keen interest in the future of resource development and sustainable economic growth. “As a professional geologist and advocate for Indigenous empowerment, I was honored to engage with Indigenous leaders, business owners, and industry experts who are shaping the future of innovation, resource development, and sustainable economic progress,” Joy stated.
The event was much more than a networking opportunity. It served as a vibrant platform for building lasting partnerships, fostering trust, and creating new avenues of collaboration. Participants discussed critical issues such as mining, critical minerals, rare earths, energy, emerging resources, technology, IT/AI, infrastructure, youth empowerment, leadership, and mental health. A notable highlight was the emphasis on the importance of Indigenous participation in sectors like mining—illustrated by the historical contribution of Indigenous employees within Cameco Corporation’s uranium mining workforce.
Gratitude was expressed towards the Government of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Trade & Invest for their efforts in organizing the conference and their ongoing commitment to nurturing collaboration and economic growth. “I look forward to seeing this momentum continue into 2026 and beyond,” Joy added, reinforcing her commitment to driving a future built on partnership, sustainability, authenticity, value, and reconciliation.
