BUDAPEST, Hungary – On June 4th, a day deeply etched in the hearts of Hungarians as the National Day of Togetherness, Tristan Azbej, Hungary’s State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and head of the esteemed Hungary Helps Program, shared a powerful message of unity and solidarity. His social media accounts highlighted a poignant ceremony and announced vital humanitarian aid efforts, reinforcing the enduring spirit of the Hungarian nation.
Secretary Azbej, alongside Christian Democrats from the mountainous regions, laid a wreath of togetherness at a significant monument, symbolizing the unbreakable bonds that tie Hungarians together. He articulated a profound vision of what it means to be Hungarian in the 21st century: “We are one nation, across borders and beyond.” This powerful statement resonates deeply with the historical context of Trianon, a period when families were separated, yet, as Azbej emphasized, “the Hungarian nation was not broken – it lived longer in schools, churches, homes and prayers.” This enduring resilience underscores the strength derived from shared heritage and spiritual foundations.

The message transitioned seamlessly from historical reflection to present-day action, reminding us that “Togetherness is still a reality – and a responsibility.” This principle was immediately put into practice with an urgent call to action. Recognizing the devastating floods currently ravaging Szeklerland, which have left many without homes, the Christian Democrats and the Hungary Helps Program are launching a crucial fundraiser to assist those affected.
This initiative reflects the core ethos of the Hungary Helps Program – Magyarország segít, which is committed to extending a helping hand where it is most needed. The fundraiser seeks donations of durable foodstuffs and hygienic articles to provide immediate relief to families impacted by the floods.
Donations are being accepted at the following location and times:
- 📍 Location: XII. district KDNP office – Corner building of Schwartzer F. street and Kékgolyó street (entrance from Kékgolyo street)
- 🕒 Times:
- Friday, June 6th: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM PKT
- Saturday, June 7th: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM PKT
Secretary Azbej extended heartfelt gratitude for the anticipated help, emphasizing that such generosity is not merely an obligation but “our job.” He encapsulated the profound motivation behind these efforts: “This is our response from humanity, faith and togetherness.”
This proactive response on the National Day of Togetherness not only commemorates a significant historical event but also demonstrates a living, breathing commitment to national unity and compassionate action. It serves as an inspiring example of how faith and shared responsibility can mobilize communities to support one another in times of need, particularly in the face of adversity. The Hungary Helps Program continues to embody these values, fostering a spirit of solidarity both domestically and internationally.
