In a recent Facebook post from Benue State, Nigeria, Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and head of the Hungary Helps Program, shared a powerful update on their mission. Azbej proudly announced that the mission of Hungary Helps in Nigeria has ended with significant achievements and the announcement of new humanitarian aid.
“Because help should be taken to the place where there is a problem, not to bring those in trouble to Europe,” Azbej emphasized. “The Hungary Helps Program stands for Christian solidarity.” He acknowledged that many asked him if it was worth taking the risk. “It’s worth it. All of this makes sense only when it’s personal: when we go where there is trouble, threat, and people live in fear, and we tell them we haven’t forgotten about them—we won’t leave them alone.”
Joining him on this important mission was Member of the European Parliament Hölvényi György, reinforcing the strong collaboration between Hungarian and Nigerian partners. Azbej candidly admitted his own fears, noting, “I’ve also been asked if I’m afraid. But, I’m scared. And in the end, it is a healthy fear that prevents me from doing something thoughtless. Eventually, everything will be alright.”

The success of Hungary Helps in Nigeria is not just measured in statistics but in the heartfelt appreciation from local communities. Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive:
- Plop Andrea commented, “For the Hungarian government, there would be such a situation in Szabolcs, where family helpers do not dare to go out to visit their families. May God protect you too, it’s good to see all the good things and of course we are happy to give them, even though there are problems here too, because Hungarian people everywhere in the world love and want peace.”
- Katalin Farkas added, “May God’s blessing accompany you all the days of your life and may He be richly gifted with His mercy along with His loved ones! Thank you for your good deeds, kindness and help to people in difficult situations!”
- Peter Ejembi shared, “You’re a great soldier in the eyes of the Lord Almighty, He is your shining Armor and Shield. You are uniting humanity and creating heaven on earth. God bless your beautiful heart!”
This heartfelt expression of gratitude and the success of the mission highlight Hungary’s readiness to deliver aid where it is needed most, showcasing that true humanitarian support comes from deep-rooted values of solidarity and compassion. The Hungary Helps Program continues to serve as a beacon of hope, ensuring that help reaches local communities in Nigeria without delay.
