In a recent Facebook post, Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and head of the Hungary Helps Program, announced a breakthrough diplomatic success that brings renewed hope to persecuted Christians around the world. The collaborative agreement between Hungary and Cyprus marks a significant step forward in protecting Christian heritage and supporting vulnerable communities in the Middle East.
A Historic Partnership Based on Shared Values
According to the statement, which was signed just a few hours ago, the Hungarian and Cypriot governments will jointly support Christian communities in the Middle East. “We welcome Cyprus into our partnership based on our shared values – both countries are committed to protecting the Christian heritage, and from now on, we will continue this officially and in a coordinated manner,” said Tristan Azbej.
Key Agreements Reached in Budapest
I had the opportunity to attend today’s meeting in Budapest, where Minister Péter Szijjártó warmly welcomed the Cypriot Foreign Minister, Konstantinos Kombost. During this high-level meeting, two important agreements were signed:
- Joint Training Programs: The two governments are launching joint training programs for their young diplomats, aiming to strengthen the bonds of the future generation of foreign affairs professionals.
- Support for Christian Communities: In close collaboration, both countries will implement targeted support programs to help Christian communities living under challenging conditions, particularly in the Middle East.
Additionally, the meeting underscored the collective responsibility to combat illegal migration. “Help should not be brought here; it must be taken to where the trouble is – so that people can remain in their homeland in safety and dignity,” the statement read.
A Promising Future for Global Solidarity
This diplomatic achievement not only offers direct support to persecuted Christians but also exemplifies the power of international cooperation in addressing critical humanitarian issues. The partnership between Hungary and Cyprus, forged on the basis of mutual respect and shared values, is set to create sustainable pathways for peace and stability in regions where Christians face tremendous adversity.
Tristan Azbej’s message is a powerful reminder that solidarity, diplomatic engagement, and proactive humanitarian aid can change lives. Through these coordinated efforts, hope is restored and a future of safety, dignity, and opportunity becomes attainable for many who have long suffered in silence.
