Human Rights Activist Condemns Security Failure After Pastor’s Killing in Gujranwala
Napoleon Qayyum demands immediate protection for Christian community as Pakistan mourns loss of Pastor Kamran Salamat during Christmas season
⚠️ Critical Security Failure
Despite clear and documented threats against his life, Pastor Kamran Salamat received no protection from security agencies, leading to his tragic death just two months after surviving a previous assassination attempt.
In the wake of the tragic killing of Pastor Kamran Salamat in Gujranwala, prominent human rights activist Napoleon Qayyum has issued a strong condemnation of the security failure that led to the pastor’s death. The incident has sent shockwaves through Pakistan’s Christian community, particularly as it occurred during the Christmas season when minority communities are already vulnerable.
The Attack: A Timeline of Tragedy
Pastor Kamran survives first assassination attempt in Islamabad. Religious extremists shoot him, bullet strikes right leg. Receives treatment at GHQ and Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Following recovery, Pastor Kamran relocates to Gujranwala with his family, seeking safety. No security protection provided despite known threats.
Unidentified assailant on motorcycle approaches Pastor Kamran outside his residence in Islam Colony, Sialkot Road. Opens fire at close range, striking him in right wrist, left ear, and lower abdomen.
Pastor Kamran succumbs to injuries at Civil Hospital Gujranwala despite medical team’s efforts.
Despite the already clear threats, the security agencies failed to provide him with protection, which creates an atmosphere of grave concern and fear for the entire Christian community. Such incidents during Christmas expose the insecurity of minorities. We demand the government to immediately provide foolproof security to pastors, churches and Christian leaders.
Qayyum’s statement highlights a critical failure in Pakistan’s duty to protect its religious minorities, particularly those who have already been identified as targets of extremist violence. The timing of the attack, during the Christmas season, has intensified fears among Christians throughout Pakistan who now question whether they can worship and serve safely.
