Budapest– As a Christian Democrat, woman, and mother, Franciska Janó-Veilandics has made it her mission to advocate for families and Christian values in the Budapest General Assembly. Representing the Christian Democratic People’s Party (KDNP), Janó-Veilandics is dedicated to ensuring that policies align with the social teachings of the Church while actively engaging in key political debates shaping Hungary’s capital.
A Rising Voice in Budapest Politics
Janó-Veilandics entered the Budapest General Assembly as a first-time political figure but has been involved in Christian Democratic politics since she was 18 years old. Her journey began in the Youth Christian Democratic Alliance (IKSZ), where she gradually rose to leadership positions, ultimately becoming the President of Budapest IKSZ in 2018.
Now, as a representative in the General Assembly, she has been vocal about her concerns regarding left-liberal coalitions dominating the capital’s governance. She has criticized what she sees as a coordinated effort by left-wing parties, including representatives of Dávid Vitézy, Gergely Karácsony, and the Tisza Party led by Péter Magyar, to control key decisions without engaging in meaningful debate.
Concerns Over City Governance and Decision-Making
Janó-Veilandics has raised alarms over the functionality of the General Assembly, pointing out that opposition representatives often leave meetings prematurely and fail to participate in crucial votes, especially on issues impacting the homeless, disabled, and urban infrastructure.
She has also criticized the mayor’s decision to pre-emptively purchase the Rákosrendező site, arguing that while the capital claims to lack funds for basic services and road repairs, it suddenly found 50 billion forints for this acquisition. She fears that the area may ultimately serve private left-wing interests rather than benefit Budapest residents.

Advocating for Christian and Family Values
Janó-Veilandics has made it clear that her political agenda is rooted in Christian social teaching, prioritizing family support and moral integrity. Among her key initiatives:
- Opposing gender ideology in children’s education: She strongly opposed an EU-funded project involving the Hintalovon Children’s Rights Foundation, which she accused of promoting LGBTQ and gender propaganda to children.
- Family-friendly urban development: She has pushed for public toilets in playgrounds to accommodate parents and young children.
- Protecting religious and cultural heritage: She proposed the restoration of stone crosses on Margaret Bridge, ensuring they are reinforced against future vandalism.
- Animal protection: She has introduced a proposal to fund animal welfare organizations and promote animal protection education.
A Vision for Budapest’s Future
Looking ahead, Janó-Veilandics remains committed to challenging left-liberal policies in the General Assembly and pushing for initiatives that reflect Christian Democratic principles. She hopes to see greater transparency in city finances, a stronger focus on family-friendly policies, and a return to traditional values in Budapest governance.
Her presence in the General Assembly signals a determined effort to defend Christian values and family interests in the face of an increasingly polarized political climate.
