Anchorage, Alaska, August 17, 2025 – First Lady Melania Trump has penned a heartfelt “peace letter” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him that “it is time” to act for the protection of children and future generations worldwide.
The letter, obtained exclusively by Fox News Digital, was hand-delivered by President Donald Trump during his high-stakes summit with Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage on Friday—the first U.S.-Russia leaders’ meeting since June 2021, held under former President Joe Biden.
The First Lady’s Message
In the opening lines, Melania Trump wrote:
“Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart, whether born randomly into a nation’s rustic countryside or a magnificent city-center. They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger.”
She continued by urging Putin to safeguard children’s innocence, saying,
“Mr. Putin, you can singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter. In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone—you serve humanity itself… It is time.”
Summit Talks in Alaska
During the meeting, President Trump described the summit as “extremely productive,” though he admitted the two sides were “not there yet” on reaching a deal to end Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
“There were many, many points that we agreed on,” Trump told reporters. “A couple of big ones that we haven’t quite gotten there, but we’ve made some headway. So, there’s no deal until there’s a deal.”
Trump rated the summit a “10 out of 10”, citing “very good progress” toward peace, according to Fox News.
Next Steps: Zelenskyy in Washington
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that he will meet with Trump in Washington, D.C. on Monday to discuss the path forward.
The summit in Alaska marks a pivotal moment in ongoing international diplomacy, with observers watching closely whether Trump’s personal diplomacy—and the symbolic letter from the First Lady—can shift the dynamics of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
Zelenskyy added that Trump had briefed him on the main points of his meeting with Putin and expressed support for a proposed trilateral summit involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine.
