The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) launched its first-ever direct intervention inside Syria this July, delivering life-saving medical supplies to Druze and Christian communities under attack. The mission follows reports that Islamist militants massacred over 1,400 Druze—among them a Syrian-American visitor—during a wave of violence in the Sweida region.
“Once we saw what was happening in Sweida, we could not turn a blind eye,” said IFCJ President Yael Eckstein, describing the coalition’s decision to dispatch antibiotics, incubators, surgical kits, IV fluids, masks and even retired Israeli ambulances in coordination with the Israel Defense Forces.
Safwan Marich, head of the IFCJ Emergency Response Center, warned the campaign constitutes a religiously-motivated genocide against Druze populations, with women and children reportedly kidnapped. “Now, Jewish people are standing with Christians who are being persecuted in Syria,” Eckstein added, framing the effort as a moral imperative rooted in Judeo-Christian solidarity.
Since April, the IFCJ has also been supplying food parcels and medical relief to villages near Israel’s border—efforts that suffered arson attacks when militants burned many of the aid packages. The latest emergency airlift underscores both the severity of the crisis and the logistical challenges of delivering aid into war-torn regions.
