Budapest, Hungary – A landmark conference in Budapest has brought together Christian leaders and key figures from around the world, including the Americas and Lebanon, to strategize and establish a sustainable future for Christian communities in Lebanon. The initiative, spearheaded by Tristan Azbej, Hungary’s State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program, aims to strengthen Christian presence in the Middle East and foster long-term collaboration.

“The story of the Christian future in Lebanon can start from Budapest,” Azbej declared on his Facebook page, highlighting the significance of the gathering. The conference, focused on planning and executing strategies for the survival and growth of Christians in Lebanon, underscored Hungary’s commitment to supporting persecuted Christian communities.
Minister Péter Szijjártó opened the conference, reiterating Hungary’s unwavering support for persecuted Christians and its dedication to playing an active role in assisting Christian communities in Lebanon. The event’s significance was amplified by the blessing of His Holiness Cardinal Béchara Boutros Raï, which was conveyed to the participants, lending spiritual and moral weight to the discussions.
The central theme of the conference revolved around the shared responsibility of the global Christian community in safeguarding the future of Christians in the Middle East. Participants emphasized that the destiny of Christians in the region is not merely a regional concern, but a global imperative. Retaining and strengthening historic Christian communities is seen as crucial for both local believers and the broader Christian world.
“Now, in Budapest, we are taking the first steps together towards a future in which Lebanese Christians can not only preserve their faith and traditions, but also strengthen their communities,” Azbej stated.
The conference marks a pivotal moment in international efforts to support Christian communities in Lebanon, with Budapest emerging as a central hub for strategic planning and collaborative action. The outcomes of the summit are expected to lay the groundwork for concrete initiatives aimed at ensuring the long-term viability and flourishing of Christian life in Lebanon.
