SI SA KET, Thailand – Aug 16, 2025: Thailand’s Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and Vice Foreign Minister Russ Jalichandra on Saturday led a high-profile 36-member diplomatic delegation to the Thai-Cambodian border in Si Sa Ket province to inspect areas allegedly affected by Cambodian-planted anti-personnel landmines.
The delegation included representatives from ASEAN member states, Ottawa Convention signatories, one regional organization, and two international organizations, alongside Thai and international media outlets.
During the field inspection, officials examined areas where landmines were reportedly planted by Cambodian forces, as well as civilian zones allegedly damaged by indiscriminate Cambodian attacks. The visit was supported by technical briefings from the Royal Thai Army and Ministry of Interior.

The Thai MFA underscored that the mission was aimed at providing the international community with first-hand evidence of the security and humanitarian risks posed by landmine deployment, emphasizing the urgency of bilateral and regional cooperation to address the issue.
The site visit followed a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok on August 15, where diplomats and Ottawa Convention–affiliated international organizations were updated on Thailand’s concerns regarding Cambodia’s alleged violations of international norms through the use of landmines along the shared border.
